• It’s been a busy week helping Kier-La Janisse ship copies of her latest book Cockfight: A Fable of Failure. It’s about Monte Hellman’s 1974 film Cockfighter (starring Warren Oates and based on Charles Willeford’s 1962 novel of the same name) and much more. The book comes recommended if you have interest in the film, the grim sport, or Janisse’s other works (such as the encyclopedic House of Psychotic Women). We shipped about 170 copies together this week (while I was also shipping regular distro orders) and I’ll be getting the remaining orders out before long. Sales of the book are paused for now. Any remaining stock will be made available (via Janisse’s Spectacular Optical) in late September after upcoming book tour engagements, and copies will again be shipped by yours truly at S&W. I posted a combination review of the book and film on Letterboxd.
• Please note there won’t be any new arrivals update next weekend as I will be in Newfoundland. I’m only gone for a few days so the shop will remain open and normal operations will resume once I return.
